AVBLEND® is a micro-lubricant with molecules smaller than ordinary oil molecules. As metals heat up and pores open, these tiny molecules soak into the metal surface, providing a cooler, better lubricated surface. This helps prevent carbon buildup on critical parts that affect performance and reduce the life of your engine.

An engine sitting idle is more prone to damage from moisture and lack of lubrication as oil settles to the bottom. When a cold engine starts, there is friction on metal parts until oil gets moving. High heat from combustion causes carbon and other harmful deposits to build up inside the engine. When those deposits settle into internal parts, friction and wear become damaging and can cause blow-by, loss of compression, excessive oil usage, and high emissions.

How AVBLEND® Works

Proven Results

In a four-year test, Enstrom Helicopters powered by Lycoming engines were flown in year-round conditions for Chicago's WGN Radio traffic reports. One 12oz can of AVBLEND was added to the engine oil at each 50-hour change interval up to the engine's TBO.

FAA inspectors performed two consecutive engine disassembly inspections at 1,000 and 1,100 hours respectively. Both produced impressive results:

  • Less than .001 of an inch total wear on critical exhaust valve stem-guide dimensions at both teardown periods
  • Exhaust and intake valves, guides, and seats showed minimal carbon and deposit buildup
  • Pistons, rings, ring lands, and combustion chambers in excellent condition
  • All four cylinders retained original nitride-steel barrels through five complete overhaul cycles over 10 years with no chroming or oversizing required

History

In the early 1930s, Indy race engineer Joe Lencki discovered the need for special lubrication in engines. While disassembling Indy 500 race engines, he found internal parts - especially cams - were scuffing due to lack of lubrication during start-up.

In 1936, Lencki developed "Speedway Cocktail" to solve internal lubrication problems, creating a whole new category of lubrication. Racing legends George Bignotti, Tony Bettenhausen, and Johnny Parsons Sr. used it regularly for maximum engine protection.

During World War II, Lencki supervised construction of aircraft engines for B-29 bombers in Chicago. There he met Manhattan Project director Enrico Fermi, whose guidance helped Lencki perfect the Linkite formula. In 1948, after years of proven results in race engines and aircraft, Lencki introduced Linkite to the aviation industry - later known as AVBLEND®.

AVBLEND® is the first pure-lubricant approved by the FAA for use in piston engine aircraft.

Is AVBLEND® compatible with all engine oils?

Yes. AVBLEND® is compatible with all aviation engine oils and will not overfill your reservoir.

Is AVBLEND® FAA approved?

Yes. AVBLEND® is FAA approved for use in aircraft piston engines. It is the first and only pure lubricant to hold this approval.

When do I use AVBLEND®?

Use AVBLEND® with each 25-hour oil change for best results. Do not exceed 50 hours between oil change intervals, or four months maximum between intervals, whichever comes first.

How much AVBLEND® do I use?

Add one 12oz can to 4-cylinder engines (4-8 qt capacity). Add two 12oz cans to 6 or 8 cylinder engines (9 qt or more capacity). For other capacities, call our technical line at 888-645-1101. Note: Continental TSIO and IO-360 series engines have an 8 qt capacity and require only one 12oz can per oil change interval.

Does AVBLEND® replace my engine oil?

No. Install your oil as the manufacturer recommends, then add AVBLEND® as directed. AVBLEND® works alongside your engine oil, not in place of it.

Can I use AVBLEND® in turbo-charged engines?

Yes. AVBLEND® works very effectively in the high-temperature environments found in turbo-charged engines.

How do I protect my engine during storage?

Install AVBLEND® during your engine's last flight before storage. AVBLEND® soaks into metal and weeps out over time, providing continuous protection against rust and pitting from condensation during periods of inactivity.

Can I use AVBLEND® with the Lycoming LW-16702 oil additive?

Yes.

Can I add AVBLEND® to my fuel?

No. AVBLEND® is not FAA approved for use in aircraft fuel systems. Use in engine oil only.

How does AVBLEND® work on a rebuilt or new engine?

AVBLEND® helps keep friction surfaces cool during break-in. Too much heat while metal is forming can cause brittleness and loss of flexibility. AVBLEND® allows metal to temper itself under working conditions, reducing cylinder wall glazing during the initial hours of a new engine's life while allowing proper break-in to occur.

Will AVBLEND® void my engine warranty?

No. If a failure occurs, the manufacturer would have to provide positive proof that AVBLEND® caused the failure in question.
